Asphacolor Dry Sealant Mix is an innovative coloring system for asphalt emulsion seal coat that provides excellent resistance to abrasion and prevents damage from sunlight, oxidation, rain, snow, frost, freezing, and thawing. It prolongs pavement life, reduces maintenance costs, and beautifies pavement with harmonious earthtone colors and even textured surface.
Storage
Store in a dry place protected from liquids. When mixed, store and handle like standard asphalt seal coat products. Use horizontal storage tanks with suspended agitators. Protect from freezing below 40°F (4.4°C).
Mixing Instructions
A) Seal Coat with Carbon Black
Mix one 50 lb bag of Asphacolor Dry Mix with approximately 20 gallons of uncut asphalt emulsion seal coat in a tank with agitator. Add 50% of required water first (about 3 gallons), then slowly add the Dry Mix while agitating for 10-20 minutes until homogeneous. Add remaining water to achieve desired viscosity (total approx. 30% by volume). Add silica sand (max 10% of seal coat weight) for texture.
B) Seal Coat without Carbon Black
Mix one 50 lb bag with about 38 gallons of uncut asphalt emulsion seal coat. Follow the same procedure, adjusting water volume to about 25% total. Silica sand addition as above.
Mixing Notice
Mixing ratios vary based on seal coat type. Submit a sample of your seal coating product to Asphacolor for analysis and optimized formula.
Coverage
Coverage ranges from 30 to 80 square feet per gallon depending on surface porosity and texture. Two coats are recommended for first applications or very porous/smooth surfaces.
Preparation of Pavement Surfaces
Repair and patch defects. Fill cracks wider than 1/8 inch with hot pour crack filler. Remove oil spots and debris before application.
Application Precautions
Do not apply to wet/damp surfaces or when rain is expected within 8 hours. Surface temperature should be ≥ 50°F (10°C) and rising. Avoid application above 90°F (34°C) to prevent streaking.
Application
Apply using spray, broom, rubber squeegee, or seal coating machine.
Cure Time
Cure time ranges from 2 to 18 hours depending on temperature and humidity.
Clean Up
Clean uncured product with water; cured product requires solvent cleaners like petroleum naphtha or kerosene.
Maintenance
Properly applied, the product should not require resealing for up to five years.
Warranty
The product is warranted for uniform quality. Liability is limited to refunding the purchase price of defective materials.
